Project details

The purpose of this project was to explore common mobile design patterns and work with more complex prototyping capabilities within Figma. I created a simple 'Add to Cart' flow with a hypothetical plant app called 'Plantera'.

*Design exploration projects are focused on continued learning and honing design craft. They intentionally have small scope and are intended to be completed quickly.

Design process

I started with simple sketches to develop initial ideas and scope the work that I wanted to accomplish. I started in my notepad and then translated those into low-fi Figma wireframes. I like this process because it allows me to focus on the concepts and content before adding the refined UI layer. I always accompany this process with a moodboard as well to build further inspiration.

Final designs

With this being more of a design exploration exercise, once I was happy with the low-fi wireframes, I skipped ahead to refining the UI and building out the animations. I focused a lot on screen transitions and how the app responded to certain interactions, as these concepts are essential to creating quality mobile experiences. I also made the decision to keep the UI very minimal and make the plants themselves the focal point. I found this trend consistent to most eComm apps throughout this design study.
